Are there any special skills you bring to table?

Teaching

These days, I am using my Master's degree in Biomedical Science and previous experience as a Science/Grant Writer (Stanford) to encourage science inquiry, improve reading comprehension and writing abilities in children (ages 5 and 11) attending KT After School.

Caring for Unique Physical, Behavioral, and Emotional Needs

Over the course of my career, I have worked in the healthcare field as well as with a number of individuals with learning and behavioral differences (ADD/ADHD) and intellectual disabilities (ASD). These experiences have made me comfortable administering oral and injectable medications as needed (Epi-pen, Insulin, and OTC meds).

Can you change a diaper?

Yes. I am also comfortable with bottle feeding and meal preparation.

What are the typical ages of kids that you sit for?

As of this writing, I have cared for five (5) infants, eight (8) toddlers, (7) pre-schoolers, and five (5) school-aged kids in the Bay Area. In total, this amounts to having working for 10-12 families.

How do you plan out activities to do with the kids?

This depends on the goals of the parents. For instance, some parents ask me to incorporate reading, writing, or storytelling into our activities. In other cases, I let kids lead by giving them the opportunity to show me their interests. Then, we engage with it together!

What is your caregiving philosophy?

  • Kids deserve to have a sitter who is genuinely curious about them and is willing to do the work to 'figure them out'.

  • Parents are the ultimate experts on their kids. As someone coming in from outside of the family unit, my job is to be curious, ask questions, and collaborate with parents and kids to better understand how I can best support your child.

  • It is a privilege to work with and we could all learn from kids.
